Ultimate Judo is proud to congratulate the incredible Angelo Parisi on receiving his 9th Dan in Judo – a milestone achievement befitting a true icon of our sport.

Angelo’s name is etched in the history books of Judo. A four-time Olympic medallist, including gold at the 1980 Moscow Games, his career at the highest level is nothing short of extraordinary. Known for his powerful, technical style and ability to throw explosively both left and right, Angelo helped redefine what heavyweight judo could look like – athletic, intelligent, and beautifully executed.

We were honoured to welcome Angelo to Ultimate Judo Aberdeen a few years ago for a seminar that left a lasting impression on everyone who attended. During his time with us, he generously shared stories from his life in judo – the highs and lows of Olympic competition, his mindset, and his technical approach. Then he stepped on the mat, and showed us first-hand why he’s regarded as one of the best to ever do it.

But it wasn’t just the judo that stood out. Angelo is one of those rare individuals whose presence lifts the room. Humble, gracious, and genuinely warm, he took the time to speak to everyone – regardless of grade, age, or experience. He was especially kind to my son, Tristan, taking time to give advice and encouragement – a gesture we’ll always remember.

To us, Angelo Parisi is more than just a champion – he’s a role model, a teacher, and a gentleman of the sport. His 9th Dan is a reflection of not only what he’s achieved on the mat, but the legacy he's built off it as well.

From all of us at Ultimate Judo – congratulations, Angelo! Thank you for everything you’ve done for the sport we love.
