This isn’t just a new colour around the waist — it’s recognition of serious time, effort, and dedication. Anyone who knows Greig knows this has been a long time coming.
I’ve had the privilege of watching his journey firsthand. From being scrappy little teammates at the Edinburgh Club, to coaching him at Ultimate Judo, and now calling him a good friend — Greig’s evolution on the mats has always been driven by something deeper than talent. It’s consistency. It’s grit. It’s turning up even when life’s pulling you in every direction.
Greig gets it. He understands that success in BJJ — or anything, really — doesn’t come from shortcuts. It comes from showing up, day in and day out, whether you’re fired up or absolutely knackered. For him, consistency is king.
All of this becomes even more impressive when you realise what he’s juggling off the mats: a high-pressure job, a young family, and a supportive partner who somehow puts up with his obsession for grappling. Balancing it all is no small feat — and still, he turns up, puts in the work, and helps others grow along the way too.
He’s one of those rare people who not only commits to improving himself but also lifts up everyone around him — whether that’s on the Judo mat or in the BJJ gym. And the best part? He does it all with a grin and a laugh, even when he’s trying to triangle you into next week.
So here’s to Greig — to the hours, the hustle, and the heart. This blue belt is well-earned, and it’s just the next step in what’s already been an incredible martial arts journey.
Can’t wait to see where he goes from here (though if you’re rolling with him, maybe keep your chin tucked just in case).
Well done, mate — blue looks good on you, but dont forget... i'll still kick your *$% lol.
