Filip back where he belongs

Photo of Filip Cegar , after his return to Judo from a horrific sledging accident

Legend, warrior, insane feats of mental fortitude, and unbelievable self-belief….some of the many words and phrases that are regularly used to describe the performances of some of the world’s greatest athletes.

Some of these, however, could be used to describe our young player Filip Cegar. Whilst the Clyde Grand Prix held on Sunday in Paisley was the first major event of the year, it held a more important milestone for Filip. It was the first competition he has entered since he broke his back and sternum in a sledging accident in December 2022. To overcome such a horrendous injury and be back on the mats, let alone competing again is incredible in itself. Competing in judo is tough, the nerves and adrenaline are tricky to overcome yet despite facing competitors that were bigger and more experienced, Filip was able to come away with a bronze medal. Once again he has shown tremendous heart, resilience and attitude yet even managed to keep his dad, Petar, calm throughout as he watched from the sidelines. Those who have seen Filip around the dojo or have seen him grow up will know that he is always relaxed on the mat and is always smiling. We are so very proud of him.
