Gordon Honoured with Scottish Samurai Award for Services to Judo

Head coach Gordon MCCathie has received another honour, this time from the Scottish Samurai Awarding Body. Gordon becomes only the second judoka (Bill Berry MBE being the other) to receive an award setup by Ronnie Watt 9th Dan karate.

We’re excited to announce that Coach Gordon, a leading judo coach in Aberdeen, has received the Scottish Samurai Award — a prestigious honour granted to individuals who have shown outstanding service and dedication in their field.

The award is reserved for those who have made a significant contribution to their area of expertise, whether on a local, national, or international level. Gordon was recognised for his long-standing commitment to judo in Scotland, going well beyond what’s expected in the martial arts community.

Joining the ranks of previous recipients like Sir Ian Wood, Billy Connolly, Susannah Lumley, and Alex Salmond, Gordon now stands among an elite group of individuals acknowledged for their impact and leadership.

At the Scottish Samurai Awards ceremony, Gordon not only accepted his award — presented by Lord Bruce and Ronnie Watt — but also gave a live judo demonstration, showcasing his passion and expertise to an honoured audience.

This achievement highlights the influence and respect Gordon has earned in the world of Scottish judo and the broader martial arts community.
