Masterclass 2014 with Georgii Zantaraia

20 May 2014

Building on the success from the last few years masterclass sessions, ultimate judo brought over theukranian cat, Georgii Zantaraia for a weekend of judo genius.

The weekend of 17th/18th May 2014 saw a plethora of judoka and coaches head north to Aberdeen to be part of Ultimate Judo’s Masterclass with former World and European u-66kg champion, Georgii Zantaraia.

Last year’s event with Mark Huizinga was a roaring success and so this year’s event had a lot to live up to. Thanks to the backing of major local businesses including Specialist Valve Services, Simpson Forsyth Chartered Accountants and OEM Diesel Products, this year’s event catered for almost 60 adult judoka and coaches on the Saturday and over 60 kids on the Sunday. The unanimous verdict? Awesome! This year’s Masterclass topped last year’s event with parents, kids and participants waxing lyrical about the range of techniques on display and having the opportunity to learn from one of the most dynamic judo players in the world.

This year’s event was organised once again by Ultimate Judo Head Coach, Gordon McCathie with assistance from Stonehaven Judo Club head coach Stuart Sim, highlighting again the growing collaboration between clubs in the North East.

Georgii covered various different techniques ranging from uchi-mata to ura-nage and some nice little tricks in newaza. He was highly complimentary about the welcome he received in Aberdeen and has already suggested he would be keen to return in the future.

Everybody took something from the day which is exactly what these Masterclasses aim to do.

The big question now is how to make the 2015 Masterclass even better? Watch this space.
