UJ Coach receives coaching award 2010

31 August 2011

Ultimate Judo Head Coach Gordon McCathie receives Prestigious Award from the Governing Body JudoScotland.

On Saturday 13th August 2011 Aberdeen Hall of Fame member and 7th Dan judoka, Bill Berry MBE presented the JudoScotland Participation Coach of the Year to Gordon McCathie, Head coach of Ultimate Judo. The participation coach of the year award is presented by JudoScotland to the Scottish coach deemed to have contributed the most to development of the sport at Grassroots level. Gordon has been honoured for his efforts in bringing new Judo opportunities to the north east of Scotland and Stornoway.

This is the first time that a coach in the Aberdeen area has been presented with this prestigious award. However, Ultimate Judo will not be resting on our laurels and are planning to extend our network of sessions into new areas of Aberdeen and further raise participation levels of our Olympic Sport.

In addition to the award ceremony, Mr Berry conducted a master class for the Ultimate Judo performance squad. The presentation and master class was attended by the Press and Journal Newspaper and was a great opportunity for all members present to experience the teachings of a true local judo legend.
