Sam was not just a member of our dojo; he was a source of inspiration, friendship, and unwavering dedication. His passing last year left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of everyone who knew him. Yet, his legacy continues to shine brightly as we proudly announce that Sam has been awarded his 1st Dan in Judo.
Before his untimely passing, Sam and Gordon set a clear goal: to achieve his black belt. Sam’s exceptional talent and commitment made this goal well within reach. He was a standout on the mats, demonstrating skill, discipline, and a passion for judo that inspired everyone around him. Tragically, Sam left us before he could formally achieve this milestone. However, we were determined to honor his dream and ensure his efforts were recognized.
After heartfelt discussions with the British Promotional Board, we shared Sam’s journey, his exceptional abilities, and his outstanding performances during grading sessions in the months leading up to his passing. Recognizing his merit and the dedication he poured into judo, the board made the extraordinary decision to award Sam his 1st Dan – not posthumously, but based entirely on his skill and accomplishments.
This achievement is a testament to Sam’s hard work, the support of his family and friends, and the judo community that rallied around him. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who played a role in Sam’s journey, from his training partners and coaches to the British Promotional Board for their understanding and recognition of his merit.
Sam, we did it. Your determination, talent, and spirit have been rightfully celebrated with this incredible achievement. Though you are no longer with us, your legacy will continue to inspire us all. Rest well, knowing your goal has been met, and your impact on our dojo and beyond will never be forgotten.
Thank you, Sam, for everything. You will always be a part of our judo family.
